This innovative program examines the lives of women in Hawaiian history in 15 presentations. Cultural practitioners and community history presenters will share these little known history contributions using illustrated lectures, chants, traditional Hawaiian storytelling, dramatic performances, and include a film segment. The film segment includes the first public viewing of excerpts from the documentary 'Exit to Paradise'(2008) by Executive Producer Edgy Lee and Producer Don Brown, along with excerpts from Edgy Lee's previous Hawaiian documentaries.

Also, Edgy Lee introduces excerpts from The Hawaiians “ Reflecting Spirit (2006) on Native Hawaiian concept of 'three piko', and an overview of the Kumulipo; Paniolo O Hawaii (2000) on women's role in Hawaii's ranching frontier eras (1800s); Pacific Network (2008), a one minute overview of her newest project, the creation of an Internet network of 9 channels, " A Native Hawaiian Portal to the World".

In what has been dubbed the 'Native Hawaiian portal to the world', “Pacific Network Television”, is being launched as Hawaii’s first major Internet-based television. PacificNetwork.tv will offer a full range of free Hawaii-themed original programming on nine channels and aims at creating a global community across oceans and time zones combining the best of television, print, and the web through its news-gathering, distribution and information dissemination service. By providing an alternative to network television news and programming and stories from our greater Hawaiian community, Pacific Network will serve people and businesses based locally and overseas.

Researchers, college administrators and policymakers from across the country will converge in Waikoloa to discuss the sciences at the 20th annual meeting of the National Science Foundation's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, or EPSCoR, held on Nov. 6-9 with three days of speakers at the Waikoloa Beach Marriot, Big Island of Hawaii.

The National Science Foundation funds research by the competitive awarding of grants. However, smaller states like Hawaii have have historically received lesser amounts of funding. Through EPSCoR, the NSF works with government, higher education and industry to increase competitiveness in research and development.

Organized by the University of Hawaii at Hilo, the conference kicks off with an address by Edgy Lee, the CEO of FilmWorks Pacific and founder of the new Internet network to launch this year, Pacific Network, a Native Hawaiian Portal to the World; followed by the screening of her feature-length film "The Hawaiians, Reflecting Spirit" (Title Sponsor, Office of Hawaiian Affairs; Major Sponsors Kamehameha Schools Land Assets Division, Outrigger Waikiki, Outrigger Reef, Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort, Kosasa Foundation, Kamehameha Investment Corporation).

Fourteen Hawaii-based filmmakers from four islands are featured in this series, set every Sunday at 5 PM. Well-known local (national award winning) filmmakers such as Edgy Lee and Tom Coffman share the stage with relative newcomers and Emmy Award winners Stephanie Castillo and Kenneth Martinez Burgmaier.

The series is intended to hightlight the breadth of talent in the islands and to allow the public to interact with some of Hawaii's best storytellers. Admission is $5 for general audiences and $3 for university students, faculty and staff.
